“One-Verse Evangelism” with “The Bridge to Life”

Another easy tool is called “The Bridge” from a discipleship ministry called The Navigators.[1] For a demonstration of how to use this bridge, watch my four-minute video, Bridge Gospel Illustration.[2] The idea is to use the following verse and create an illustration so you can explain the gospel:

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Rom. 6:23)

Write out this verse on top of a piece of paper. Then begin with something like the following: “Imagine you’re standing on one side of a cliff, and you’re separated by a huge chasm from the other side. You can see the other side, but there doesn’t seem to be any way to get across this abyss. If you fall, you’ll be gone forever. This is how it is with our relationship with God. Although God loves us, our sins have separated us from him relationally. Scripture says, ‘But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear’ ” (Isa. 59:2).
